A message from our President

With the year half over, I wanted to take this opportunity to express to you my appreciation, on behalf of the Board, for your continued financial support and for your participation in our programs this year. We were very pleased with the number of people who attended our first two programs - Discovering new England Stone Walls and The History of the Hollis Police Department. The turnout was impressive for both events, and the participation and enthusiasm of both audiences was gratifying. We are certainly looking forward to our March 26th program, A Visit with Abraham Lincoln, and we hope that you will be able to attend. This year is the bicentennial of Lincoln's birthday. our presenter, Steve Wood of the New Hampshire Humanities Council, will portray President Lincoln and share stories of his life, his 1860 visit to new Hampshire, and the Civil War.

As a Board we have focused our efforts on two maintenance projects at the Wheeler house this year. I am pleased to report that we have completed the installation of a fire alarm system as well as repairs rto the flat roof in the rear of the building. We have also begun some much needed exterior work on the grounds and gardens.

The Board has begun to make plans for the 150th anniversary of the Always Ready Engine House. We hope to make this a memorable community event, and we will be reporting to you on this upcoming celebration at our annual meeting in May, when plans have been finalized.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our March 26th program.

Sincerely Yours,
Dick Lates, President
