The President's Letter
Greetings to all members.
Please note that our October program, Meet Eleanor Roosevelt, will be held on the fourth Thursday of the month, October 26 at the Faith Baptist Church on Wheeler Road at 7:30PM. Plan to bring a guest to this exceptional evening! Our thanks to Julie Tyska for lining up an excellent variety of programs for 2006-2007 (Annual program available online)
The Engine House Museum that has housed the DAR 100th Anniversary Exhibit all summer will be closing its doors for the season on October 15th. DAR and HHS members invite you to a Sunday Afternoon Social (refreshments will be served) to mark the last day of the popular display of antique dolls, toys, furniture, vintage dress, memorabilia and pictorial history of the Anna Keyes Powers Chapter. We are grateful to all who so generously loaned their possessions t the exhibit. The Museum will be open from 1 to 4PM
Sue Birch "kept us connected" at the Old Home Day with her exhibit of family history on The Hollis Telephone Company. Many a passer-by was drawn to the old style phones and equipment and enjoyed a flash back to "number please" and party lines. It was great to have Dotsie Prozeller and Dorothy Bartram take part! And thank you to Joe Harlin for transporting supplies and books for sale.
We are indebted to a certain few who staff and work at the Wheeler House each week throughout the year. If you would be interested in taking part, please give Martha Davis a call for more information.
As you know, funding for our programs, exhibits, maintenance and upkeep comes from our membership dues. Some will receive a reminder that annual dues have not yet been submitted. Please take the time to renew your membership.
We look forward to another exciting year as we strive to carry out the mission of the Society which is to promote interest, to provide information and to preserve our Hollis History.
Best wishes to all.
